HEARING LOSS

There are three types of hearing loss, each affecting different parts of the auditory system:

1.      Conductive hearing loss: This is when the hearing loss is caused due to something happening in the middle part of the ear e.g. fluid in the middle ear, damage to the middle ear bones or damage to the eardrum

2.      Sensorineural hearing loss: This is when the hearing loss is permanent and caused by damage to the hair cells in the inner ear, this could be from noise exposure, older age or a number of other reasons

3.      Mixed hearing loss: This is when the hearing loss is a mixture of a conductive hearing loss and a sensorineural loss and could mean a combination of areas in the ear are affected.
